For hospital patients connected to an intravenous drip bag mobility becomes a problem. Though the IV bags may be suspended from a roller stand, the latter has to be pushed everywhere and prevents the patients using stairwells.
The IV bag may be detached from the roller stand and carried by hand but the patient must ensure the bag remains above heart level at all time to ensure gravity feed, which is not practical and requires unnecessary physical exertion from the recovering patient.
This body hanger for an IV bag comprises a curvilinear bracket plate that rests partially on the top of a shoulder and is strapped to the lateral side of the patient's upper arm. The bracket plate is formed with an open toothed channel that seats the bottom end of a T-shaped support rod, which is height adjustable.
If the patient wishes to visit the bathroom or cafeteria, the body hanger is secured to the upper arm and the IV bag transferred from the bed stand to the T-shaped support rod. This way the IV bag remains elevated to ensure gravity feed and patient has free use of both hands for support while climbing up or down stairs.
