A patient transfer sheet used to slide a patient from a gurney to a bed or visa versa commonly comprises a tube of flexible material. The exterior surface comprising a soft felt layer while the interior side is coated with a plastic film that offers very little friction when the flattened tube rolls onto itself.

Since the low friction side of the transfer sheet is coated with a continuous membrane of low friction plastic no air circulation is possible through the transfer sheet. Thus heat build-up occurs making it very uncomfortable for a patient lying and sweating on the transfer sheet for several hours.

This transfer sheet is manufactured from fabric comprising a nylon and cotton blend. The sheet is laminated to a thin sheet of polyurethane on one side and then through a heating process melted to fuse with the sheet. This provides durability to the plastic film layer, which is less prone to cracking and peeling off after repeated usage.

The entire sheet is then perforated with tiny laser-cut holes that are less prone to tearing or frying apart, since the laser performs a cauterising action sealing the edges of the openings. The sheet is then cut to size and opposite ends stitched together in the final production stage to form a breathable transfer sheet capable of evaporating perspiration.
